Overview

Now every grade starts with a word.

Welcome to Colourlab Ai 4 — the result of more than eight years of research into AI and human perception. This release democratizes color grading: you talk to your application and it builds looks for you, matching entire sequences in minutes that used to take hours.

Who it's for

Colourlab Ai was built for colorists, but it isn't limited to them. We designed it for anyone who loves beautiful images and doesn't have the time or patience to wrestle with a hardcore grading system — cinematographers, photographers, editors, content creators, and working colorists who want to move faster. It's intuitive to learn and intuitive to operate.

What problem it solves

If you've landed here, you've probably tried color grading before — and you know it isn't easy. Mastering it the traditional way takes years, because there are really two skills tangled together: an artistic one (taste, intent, emotion) and a technical one (operating the tools, panels, scopes, nodes).

Colourlab Ai 4 strips away the technical layer. You type what you want, or point at a reference image, and the AI does the operating for you. The biggest difference between Colourlab Ai 4 and DaVinci Resolve, Baselight, or Premiere isn't another panel of controls — it's that there are no panels to click through. You talk, you point, the machine understands what you're after, and it applies that across one clip or across thousands.

What's new in Colourlab Ai 4

Colourlab Ai 4 is a complete rewrite. Not a single line of code is shared with Colourlab Ai 3 — every part is built from the ground up for an agentic workflow.

For the first time, the machine doesn't just match your images, it sees them the way you do. Powering that is our new Perceptual Image Analyzer (PIA) engine — the eyes that let the color grading agent work with far more precision than anything that came before it.

It's also dramatically faster. Colourlab Ai 3.5 was twenty times faster than Colourlab Ai 3; Colourlab Ai 4 is roughly a hundred times faster. Color matching happens in milliseconds — watching it work in real time is honestly startling.

We're also no longer limited to CDL. Matching in Colourlab Ai 4 has far higher precision than CDL could ever express.

And the part that still makes Colourlab Ai unique compared to anything else on the market: everything happens in real time, in 4K, on your computer. No waiting on renders, no round-tripping to a cloud service. The moment a match completes, you press play and see the result.

How it works, at a glance

There are two ways to drive Colourlab Ai 4 — pick whichever fits the moment.

1. Reference-driven. Bring in your clips, open the Reference Library, and search for inspiration. Preview any look instantly against your footage. When you've picked the style you want, let Colourlab Ai 4 carry it through the rest of the sequence.

2. Intent-driven. Skip references entirely and tell the agent what you want. Describe the feeling — dramatic, intimate, cold morning light, warm late-summer afternoon — or describe the emotion you want your audience to land on. The agent understands intent, knows what a given look will evoke, and proposes grades to match. Click any suggestion to preview instantly, then let it rip across the whole timeline.

Either path produces the same result you'd expect from a colorist working all day with traditional tools — only it's done in minutes, and you stayed in the creative seat the entire time.
